Account Suspensions
A Google Ads account suspension stops advertising from the affected account. It is an account-level state and needs to be distinguished from an individual ad disapproval, a verification-related pause or a temporary hold.
This page belongs to Google Ads account issues within our Google Ads documentation. It classifies the account state and the information needed to identify an appropriate response.
What a suspension means
Google’s suspension overview covers policy and terms violations, billing-related reasons and certain account-security situations. Suspended accounts cannot run ads. An account suspension is not resolved simply by waiting for an ordinary ad review; the notification and applicable process determine the next step.
The same symptom, such as all campaigns stopping, can occur in more than one account state. Confirm that the notification actually says suspended before using suspension-specific guidance.
Suspension, hold and ad disapproval
- Suspension: an account-wide enforcement state; use the reason and process shown in the account.
- Restriction or hold: a different account state; see Account Restrictions & Holds.
- Ad disapproval: a decision affecting an ad or asset; check whether a separate account-level notice also exists.
- Verification pause: check the outstanding task and deadline under Verification Issues.
Classifying the reason
Create an issue record containing the exact notice, affected customer ID and date received. Keep separate fields for the account state and its stated cause. For example, “suspended” is the state, while the policy or billing reason is the cause.
Recommended investigation groups are business and policy representation, destination behavior, payment information, account security and related-account history. These groups help assign the right owner; they are not a substitute for the reason Google provides.
Information to collect before an appeal
- The complete notification and any related email, including the specific policy named.
- The affected account, business, destination URLs and people responsible for them.
- Earlier warnings, verification requests or enforcement decisions relevant to the same issue.
- A dated summary of findings and corrections, with supporting evidence.
- Any unresolved task Google says must be completed before the appeal can proceed.
Separate verified facts from assumptions. A recent site change may be worth investigating, but timing alone does not prove that it caused the suspension. Ask the developer, billing owner or account administrator to document the part they can actually verify.
Understanding review and reinstatement
Google provides a suspension appeal route through the account notification. Some advertisers must complete requested verification before an appeal can be processed. Reinstatement is a decision by Google and should not be promised by a service provider.
Keep the appeal explanation specific to the notice and the evidence. An internal record should let another person understand what was checked, what changed and why the change is relevant. Do not submit a generic explanation that assumes every suspension has the same cause.
Avoiding a second unresolved issue
Do not try to continue the same advertising through replacement accounts intended to evade enforcement. That behavior is covered by circumventing systems. Keep account relationships transparent and use the appropriate review process.
For the distinction between warnings, strikes and account-wide outcomes, continue to Policy Enforcement Actions.
