Why Google Ads return to review after an edit

Google Ads documentation › Review & Eligibility › Under Review

An ad or asset can return to review after it is edited. That state is different from a new policy rejection. Keep the modified version and the resulting status together when diagnosing a launch delay.

Confirm the issue

  • Identify exactly which item changed.
  • Record the saved version and edit time.
  • Compare under-review status with disapproved or limited status.
  • Check whether the destination changed as part of the edit.

Review and correction workflow

Use a release record for ads and destinations. Where several people manage the account, ask them to log relevant edits so the review timeline is clear. Repeatedly modifying an item to make it look active can create avoidable confusion.

Wait or escalate according to the applicable review guidance unless a genuine correction is required. Once the review finishes, verify the intended content and status. Do not infer that earlier approval automatically covers a new version.

Illustrative review example

A team changes a headline shortly before launch and expects the old approval to remain conclusive. The new version needs its own status check.

Should I make another edit to speed things up?

Not as a routine habit. Establish whether an actual correction is needed and follow the current review-status guidance.

Verify the outcome

Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.

Related checks and next steps

For launch checks on an updated destination, use the landing page preflight. If the final result is a rejection, continue with How to Fix Disapproved Ads.
