Google Ads account paused for security checks
Google Ads documentation › Account Issues › Account Restrictions & Holds
A security-related pause should be investigated as an account-protection issue. Confirm the notice before concluding that a policy violation, payment failure or campaign setting caused the interruption.
Confirm the issue
- Review unexpected sign-ins, users and manager access through the account’s security controls.
- Identify unusual campaigns, destination changes or budget changes.
- Keep a timeline of Google’s alerts and business actions.
- Check whether access restoration and ad-serving restoration are separate tasks.
Review and correction workflow
Follow the security instructions provided by Google and preserve relevant evidence. Review authorized access with the account owner. Do not share passwords, backup codes or identity documents with unverified parties offering to remove a hold.
When Google completes the security review, compare the current advertising setup with the intended one. Check paused items and unresolved alerts before resuming activity. Use the account-specific support route when the security state remains unclear.
Illustrative review example
An administrator regains access but unfamiliar campaigns remain in the account. Recovery requires a configuration review as well as a working login.
Is every unexplained pause a security hold?
No. The term should not be used as a diagnosis without a matching notification or confirmed account information.
Verify the outcome
Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.
Related checks and next steps
If Google has applied a suspension, use unauthorized-activity suspension guidance. After recovery, complete the post-reinstatement checks before enabling campaigns.
