Google Ads account paused for investigation
Google Ads documentation › Account Issues › Account Restrictions & Holds
An account-investigation pause is a temporary account state used while Google reviews a concern. The notice should be distinguished from a verification deadline, an advertiser-paused campaign and a policy suspension.
Confirm the issue
- Record the wording and date of the account notification.
- Check whether Google requests a particular task or response.
- Review related verification, payment and security alerts.
- Keep the campaign’s own paused/active state separate.
Review and correction workflow
Assign one owner to track the account investigation and any requested information. Preserve a timeline of relevant changes and support correspondence. Supply the facts requested through the official route; avoid speculative explanations presented as confirmed causes.
After the investigation changes state, verify both the account notification and intended campaign behavior. A campaign may remain paused independently, while an unresolved billing or verification issue may require separate action. Do not create new accounts to bypass the pause.
Illustrative review example
All campaigns stop but the banner refers to investigation. The correct first action is to read the requested account response, rather than increasing campaign budgets.
Does a pause prove a permanent ban?
No. A pause and suspension are different states. The current notice and resulting review determine the next step.
Verify the outcome
Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.
Related checks and next steps
If the notice asks for documents, continue with Verification Issues. If it identifies a security concern, compare security-check pauses before selecting a response.
