Google Ads destination mismatch
Google Ads documentation › Policy Issues › Destination & Landing Page Issues
Destination mismatch concerns consistency between the advertised URL and the resulting destination. The final URL, mobile URL and tracking configuration need to represent the expected experience under Google’s URL requirements.
Confirm the issue
- Record the display, final and mobile URLs.
- Follow the actual redirect path with tracking included.
- Compare the resulting domain and content with the configured destination.
- Check templates or account-level tracking applied to the item.
Review and correction workflow
Create a URL map showing the configured value and resulting page at each stage. This often makes a tracking or migration problem clearer than repeatedly editing the visible display path. Assign the relevant correction to the developer or tracking owner.
Use consistent compliant URL settings and retest the complete journey. Avoid swapping to another domain solely to conceal the same underlying issue. Keep the correction record available for the associated review request.
Illustrative review example
A tracking template retained after a migration sends traffic to a different domain. Updating only the landing-page headline does not correct that route.
Can the homepage URL prove the ad route is correct?
No. Test the actual expanded journey for the affected item, including any inherited tracking settings.
Verify the outcome
Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.
Related checks and next steps
After the route is corrected, use the landing page preflight to check the complete journey. If the ad is disapproved, continue with How to Fix Disapproved Ads.
