Google Ads destination not working
Google Ads documentation › Policy Issues › Destination & Landing Page Issues
Destination not working concerns a page or app that fails to provide the functioning destination required for an ad. Test the actual ad URL, including the path and tracking involved, rather than only checking whether the homepage opens.
Confirm the issue
- Copy the final and expanded URLs associated with the affected item.
- Record HTTP, DNS, timeout or authentication errors.
- Test relevant browser and mobile experiences.
- Ask the developer to reproduce the specific failure and time.
Review and correction workflow
Classify the failure before changing content. A missing path, server failure and redirect loop need different corrections. Retain the original URL and error so the technical owner can verify the same journey after deployment.
After correction, repeat the affected test and follow the policy review route. A successful visit while signed in as an administrator is not enough to establish that the public destination works. Check any separate content policy named in the account.
Illustrative review example
An ad points to an old product path returning an error while the homepage remains available. Homepage testing misses the actual fault.
Will rewriting the ad fix a server error?
Not by itself. Repair the destination or use an appropriate compliant destination and then follow the relevant review process.
Verify the outcome
Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.
Related checks and next steps
After repairing the URL, use the landing page preflight to verify the public journey. Track the resulting decision with How to Fix Disapproved Ads.
