Google Ads refund after account cancellation
Google Ads documentation › Billing & Payments › Refunds & Credits
A refund after account cancellation depends on eligible remaining funds and the applicable billing conditions. Cancellation and refund processing are separate events; neither should be inferred from a campaign simply being paused.
Confirm the issue
- Confirm the account cancellation date and status.
- Classify remaining funds and outstanding charges.
- Identify the original payment method and billing country.
- Record any refund confirmation or requested follow-up.
Review and correction workflow
Reconcile the final balance before comparing it with a bank credit. Recent charges or non-refundable promotional credits can make the visible balance differ from an expected refund. Use the official conditions applicable to the account.
Track the refund reference and processing stage. When the original method is no longer usable, follow the account’s supported instructions rather than sending bank details to an unverified contact. Some eligible accounts have active-account refund options, so cancellation is not a universal first step.
Illustrative review example
A campaign is paused but the account remains active. That does not establish that a cancellation-triggered refund process has begun.
Is every credit refunded after cancellation?
No. Eligibility and balance type matter; promotional credits are not a refundable cash payment.
Verify the outcome
Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.
Related checks and next steps
A bank dispute follows a different process; see chargeback-related restrictions. If the expected credit is actually an incoming payment, use payment tracing.
