Google Ads first strike and temporary hold
Google Ads documentation › Account Issues › Policy Enforcement Actions
A first strike is an escalation under Google’s repeat-violation system for certain policies. It is different from an initial warning and should be interpreted using the policy and numbered strike in the notification.
Confirm the issue
- Confirm that the message states first strike and names the policy.
- Identify affected ads or assets and the prior warning.
- Choose correction/acknowledgement or a supported dispute based on evidence.
- Check the required action as well as the hold period.
Review and correction workflow
Google’s published process associates the first strike with a three-day temporary hold. The required response still matters: do not assume time alone completes the process. Review and correct the relevant violations before making an acknowledgement that says they are resolved.
Keep a compliance record covering affected items and new material scheduled for publication. If the strike appears mistaken, use the specified appeal route and explain the evidence. Do not create a replacement account to avoid the hold.
Illustrative review example
An advertiser removes one flagged ad but leaves the same issue in shared assets. The account review should cover the actual policy scope before acknowledging resolution.
Is the first disapproved ad always a first strike?
No. The strike process applies to specified repeat violations. Read the actual notification rather than counting every disapproval as a strike.
Verify the outcome
Keep the original notice, the evidence reviewed and the action taken in one dated record. Confirm the resulting status in the affected account or item. A completed internal checklist is evidence of your review; it does not override Google’s decision.
Related checks and next steps
